About the procedure

About the procedure

Forehead lifts and brow lifts are becoming increasingly popular procedures worldwide, including at our clinic. The face, including the forehead, contributes to a person’s overall appearance, whilst the area between the eyebrows emphasises their individuality. However, as we age, we not only lose elasticity but also experience sagging of the forehead and the formation of wrinkles between the eyebrows and on the forehead. The most common facial expressions include a worried, tired, wrinkled or frowning look, which adds years and detracts from one’s beauty.

These accompanying effects can be addressed in a modern and gentle manner through a cosmetic surgical lifting procedure (to reduce the signs of ageing, soften facial expressions, etc.).

Forehead and eyebrow lift (brow lift) versus eyelid surgery

Clients often initially request eyelid surgery, but frequently fail to realise that the problem is usually caused by sagging and drooping of the forehead or eyebrows. Eyelid surgery can be combined with a forehead and brow lift to achieve an even better and more effective result.

A brow lift is a procedure that lifts a sagging forehead and eyebrows, thereby rejuvenating the eye area. The eyebrows can be reshaped, wrinkles at the bridge of the nose, as well as transverse and horizontal forehead wrinkles, can be smoothed out, or the eyebrows can simply be raised slightly to create a brighter, more optimistic appearance.

Further information about the procedure

The procedure is carried out under local anaesthesia, general anaesthesia or analgosedation. An eyebrow or forehead lift can be performed in several ways: either by lifting the forehead or eyebrows, or simply by reshaping the eyebrows to achieve perfect symmetry. It is always possible to combine both methods. In standard cosmetic surgery, the incision is made at the hairline and is concealed beneath the hair, or it is made just above the eyebrows so that the scar is hidden by the eyebrows (in the case of reshaping). A forehead or eyebrow lift takes approximately 1.5 hours and allows a return to work and personal life after around a week’s recovery, or sometimes as early as the following day, depending on the area being treated and the extent of the procedure. The procedure is suitable for both women and men and, for even better results, can be combined with other aesthetic procedures, such as a facelift, lipofilling, botulinum toxin injections, etc. If you decide to undergo a brow and forehead lift, we will always take your facial features and aesthetic requirements into account.

Benefits of the procedure

An eyebrow or forehead lift lifts and smooths the area around the site of the procedure to achieve a more youthful appearance. It is a versatile solution with minimal post-operative discomfort and pain.

  • An outpatient invasive procedure carried out under local anaesthetic
  • Visible results with long-lasting effects
  • Minimal side effects
  • A quick procedure leaving no visible scars, provided they are concealed within the hairline
  • A safe aesthetic medicine procedure that does not place a strain on the body
  • A natural, rejuvenated appearance

Alternative treatments – as recommended by clients

The procedure can be combined with other procedures that are more or less invasive. These can range from eyelid surgery to a traditional facelift under general anaesthesia.

Treatment process

Once the area has been anaesthetised, depending on the extent of the procedure, short, elongated incisions are made in the hair-bearing part of the forehead and at the temples, or a larger incision is made between the two ears. The skin on the forehead is lifted – an endoscope may also be used – and reduced, i.e. the excess skin is removed, and the wound is sutured after drains have been inserted. Following the procedure, which is carried out under general anaesthesia, hospitalisation is required. The operated area is secured with a special compression bandage to prevent excessive swelling; this also helps the tissues to heal more quickly. The area may show signs of swelling, depending on the sensitivity of the skin.

Before the procedure

The procedure is quick, safe and well tolerated, but there are certain restrictions even for this procedure. You must stop smoking for about two weeks before the procedure – smoking increases the risk of complications and impairs healing.

After the procedure

Following the procedure, swelling, redness, bruising, tingling and stiffness may occur for approximately 2–10 days; these symptoms will gradually subside on their own. The patient attends dressing changes and, after 14 days, a follow-up appointment for the removal of stitches. If drains were used during the procedure, these are removed after approximately 2 days. It is advisable to sleep in an elevated position. After a week, you may resume the activities you were engaged in prior to the procedure; however, we do not recommend any strenuous physical activity for at least one month, including sport, saunas, solariums and sunbathing. Please take care when combing your hair and avoid exposure to hot air from hairdryers. The procedure generally requires at least one week’s recovery period during which you will be unfit for work. It is always essential to follow the post-operative regimen prescribed by your treating doctor. Depending on the individual’s physiology, skin elasticity and genetic predisposition, the results of the procedure are permanent.
